Experience has shown us that customers often confuse simultaneous and consecutive interpreting and use these terms interchangeably. However, it should be remembered that these are two different types of service, each of which has specific features and pricing, with the simultaneous interpretation option being more expensive.
Simultaneous interpreting is the most complicated types of oral translation. Unlike its consecutive counterpart, it is performed simultaneously with speech, which eliminates the need to make pauses. This is possible thanks to the use of specialized equipment, as well as the preparation of the interpreter who, considering his or her skill and many years of experience, is considered to be at the pinnacle of the profession. While the consecutive interpreter has time to analyse what the speaker has said, the simultaneous interpreter must listen, analyse and translate into the target language simultaneously, while retaining the overall sense of the communication.
